American Horror Story co-creator and showrunner Ryan Murphy has revealed the official theme for next season will be a crossover between the first season’s Murder House and the third season’s Coven! Murphy teased back in January that the crossover would be saved for the ninth season, but made a surprise tweet today that fans would be seeing it happen this year. What kind of witchcraft is this?!
Here’s Murphy’s tweet:
The Coven/Murder House AHS crossover season won't be happening next year…because it's happening THIS YEAR. AHS #8 WITCHES RULE THIS SEPTEMBER
— Ryan Murphy (@MrRPMurphy) June 14, 2018
The first season of AHS followed a family living in a haunted house inhabited by numerous ghosts, while the third season focused on a New Orleans coven of witches. Murphy spoke with EW several weeks ago saying there would be many familiar faces reappearing.
“You will see so many fan favorites return that you’ll feel like it’s The Love Boat,” Murphy told EW. “It’s a very high concept. It’s a season unlike anything we’ve done because there’s a big hook to it. There’s a huge thing that happens in episode 5.”
Murphy previously said these “fan favorites” would include Billie Lourd, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Kathy Bates, among others. He has also mentioned the next season would be taking place in the future, though details are still up for speculation.
It was previously reported an AHS fan twitter account found a new trademark was filed for the title American Horror Story: Radioactive. Will the next season follow a coven of witches living in a haunted house during a nuclear post-apocalypse? We can only dream.
Are you excited to hear about the Murder House/Coven crossover?! What do you think the story will be? All we know is, Halloween can’t can’t come soon enough this year (or any year). AHS Murder House and Coven are currently available on Netflix if fans need to refresh themselves before the eighth season casts its spell this September!
