AMC Officially Orders Pilot Based on ‘Preacher’ Comics

Published

on

After several failed attempts at getting a big or small screen adaptation of Garth Ennis’ Preacher comic books made, AMC has finally cemented the project’s 100% existence. The cable network reportedly began developing an adaptation of Preacher late last year, and has now taken the step of officially ordering a pilot episode for the series.

Developed by noted comic actor Seth Rogen and his longtime collaborator Evan Goldberg (the duo behind last year’s hilarious apocalyptic comedy This is the End), AMC’s Preacher adaptation will reportedly stick pretty close to the source material, a fact that shouldn’t be too surprising. Rogen and Goldberg – who also teamed up for the Green Hornet film – are both well-known comic junkies, with Rogen being a big fan of Preacher in particular.

Penning the actual pilot script will be Sam Catlin, a veteran of AMC’s critically adored crime drama Breaking Bad. In a good sign for Preacher fans, Garth Ennis is very much on-board with Catlin, Rogen, and Goldberg’s take on one of his most beloved works.

Preacher

For those unfamiliar with the Preacher books, their plot followed the travels of Reverend Jesse Custer, a Texas preacher experiencing a severe crisis of faith. Just when he is finally ready to fully break ties with his beliefs, Custer’s body becomes one with an otherworldly spiritual force known only as Genesis. This heavenly metamorphosis grants Jesse god like powers, sending the disillusioned reverend on a cross country journey of revenge, with the ultimate goal being to force God himself to answer for the Almighty’s own sins against humanity.

With all these big names behind the scenes, it’s hard to imagine AMC not at least granting Preacher one 13-episode season. The network has certainly already had great success with comic adaptations, and one would think that Preacher might make a great new lead-in to The Walking Dead next fall. Talk about a potential one-two punch of badass horror stories.

Watch ‘The Burning’ At The Location Where It Was Filmed

Published

on

Fangoria is reporting that fans of the 1981 slasher The Burning will be able to have a screening of the film at the location where it was filmed. The movie is set at Camp Blackfoot which is actually the Stonehaven Nature Preserve in Ransomville, New York.

This ticketed event will take place on August 3. Guests will be able to take a tour of the grounds as well as enjoy some campfire snacks along with the screening of The Burning.

The Burning

The film came out in the early ’80s when teen slashers were being churned out in magnum force. Thanks to Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th, filmmakers wanted to get in on the low-budget, high-profit movie market and a casket load of these types of films were produced, some better than others.

The Burning is one of the good ones, mostly because of the special effects from Tom Savini who had just come off of his groundbreaking work on Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. He declined to do the sequel because of its illogical premise and instead signed on to do this movie. Also, a young Jason Alexander who would later go on to play George in Seinfeld is a featured player.

Because of its practical gore, The Burning had to be heavily edited before it received an R-rating. The MPAA was under the thumb of protest groups and political bigwigs to censor violent films at the time because slashers were just so graphic and detailed in their gore.

Tickets are $50, and if you want a special t-shirt, that will cost you another $25, You can get all the information by visiting the On Set Cinema webpage.
