Countless horror films are released each and every year, and if we’re being honest, a large majority of them just plain aren’t worth covering. But when one of those films is made by a 13-year-old, it’s simply impossible to not take notice.

Successfully funded through Kickstarter last October, Carver is an 80s-style throwback slasher flick co-written and co-directed by Emily DiPrimio, a 13-year-old horror fan who isn’t waiting to make her own contributions to the genre she loves. Her partner in crime? Her dad, who wrote the screenplay with Emily while she was recovering from ankle surgery.

A whopping 528 backers helped make Emily’s dream a reality last year, together donating $31,900 to cause – far surpassing the $25,000 goal set by the DiPrimio family. The horror community came together to foster the creativity of a young girl, and that’s a pretty damn beautiful thing, if you ask me.

Check out the just-released trailer for Carver below, which proves that you’re never too early to start making your dreams come true!

Carver is about a group of teenagers who are haunted by a despicable act they committed on Halloween when they were younger. Their actions caused the deaths of three innocent people. Now, on the anniversary of those deaths, an ominous calling card in the form of a carved pumpkin has been placed at each of their homes. Someone is out for revenge. The question is…who?
